Chihuahuas 6, Sugar Land Space Cowboys 5

Key Statistics: C Luis Campusano 2-for-4, R, HR (11), 3 RBI; DH Yonathan Perlaza 2-for-3, 2 R, BB, 2B, SB (9); 1B-2B Nate Mondou 1-for-3, BB, 2B; LHP Omar Cruz 1.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; RHP Logan Gillaspie 2 IP, 3 H, 2 K; RHP Raul Brito (W, 4-2) 2 IP, H, BB, 4 K; RHP Eduarniel Núñez (S, 1) IP, K

Prospect Watch: El Paso trailed 5-1 before erupting for five runs in the eighth inning to earn the come-from-behind victory. … The big blow in the eighth came courtesy of Luis Campusano, who slammed a three-run homer into the El Paso night to pull the Chihuahuas within a run. The blast was Campusano’s 11th of the season. The backstop also had a single in four plate appearances. During his time with El Paso, the 26-year-old has a tremendous 1.035 OPS that would lead the PCL if he had enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title. As we have mentioned before, Campusano is simply too good for PCL pitchers but he has yet to establish himself as a viable backstop for a big league club that sorely needs a long-term option. Campusano is the only catcher on the 40-man who can be controlled for 2026. … Brandon Lockridge made his season debut for El Paso after being optioned over the weekend. In his first plate appearance, he was drilled in the head with a fastball. After he stumbled out of the box, Chihuahuas manager Pete Zamora swiftly removed him from the game. He will undergo evaluation. … On the mound, Omar Cruz battled his command and lasted just 1.2 innings. He allowed four runs on five hits, walking three and striking out two. The 26-year-old has had major issues with free passes this year; his 15.3% walk rate is the worst of his professional career. Just 18 of his 48 pitches were in the zone Tuesday. To make matters worse, Cruz is giving up 1.7 homers per nine innings, leading to an ERA approaching six. … Righty Logan Gillaspie pitched two innings in a rehab appearance and allowed three hits over two scoreless innings. The veteran righty functioned as the Padres’ long man before hitting the injured list at the end of April. With Bryan Hoeing back in the fold, there isn’t an immediate need in the Padres’ bullpen, but Gillaspie’s ability to cover multiple innings should give him another opportunity to pitch in San Diego. Statcast caught seven different pitch classifications from the righty in the contest. … Eduarniel Núñez pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save with El Paso and third overall. The hard-throwing righty pumped high-90s heat, topping out at 99 mph. Since being promoted to Triple-A, the 26-year-old has not allowed a run in 5.1 innings. During that span, he’s walked three and struck out eight.

Roster Moves: Reliever Manuel Castro was promoted from San Antonio to El Paso prior to Tuesday’s action. The young righty has shown dominant stuff for the Missions this year. He has an excellent 38.4% strikeout rate, and although his ERA is 4.39, his 2.88 FIP paints a much rosier picture. He is Rule 5 eligible this winter if he is not added to the 40-man roster. Catcher Jack Mathey was sent back to the ACL in a corresponding move. In addition, veteran J.B. Wendelken was activated from the IL and sent to San Antonio after spending two weeks on a rehab assignment in the desert. Infielder Emil Turbi, who came up over the weekend because of a roster crunch, was placed on the development list.

Missions 3, Midland RockHounds 2

Key Statistics: SS Francisco Acuña 1-for-3, R, 2 BB, SB (14); RF Moisés Gómez 1-for-2, 3 BB, RBI, SB (5); CF Jake Snider 1-for-2, 2 R, BB, SB (1); RHP Braden Nett (W, 5-3) 6 IP, 5 H, BB, 4 K; RHP Ethan Routzahn (S, 2) 1.1 IP, K

Prospect Watch: The Missions’ offense managed just four hits while going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. However, they drew eight walks and were able to outlast the RockHounds in the series opener. … Moisés Gómez reached base four times Tuesday with a single and three walks. He also added his fifth stolen base of the year. The 26-year-old veteran hit four homers in April while putting up an OPS north of .900. Since then, Gomez has gone 41 games without recording a round-tripper. Gomez has two 30-homer seasons in affiliated ball under his belt, but the lack of power this season, coupled with a 27% K-rate has led to a disappointing season for the former Cardinals farmhand. … Francisco Acuña continued his excellent 2025 season by getting on base three times. The former Pirates prospect singled, drew two walks, and added his 14th stolen base of the season. The 26-year-old never topped 70 games in a season during his time in the Pittsburgh system, but he’s taken advantage of the playing time in San Antonio. The Colombian-born infielder boasts a solid .791 OPS in his first season in the Padres’ system. … Braden Nett continued his dominant run on Tuesday with another dominant performance. The Missouri native pitched six shutout innings, allowing just five hits. He walked one and struck out four. The righty has been excellent in June, working to a 3-0 record with a 1.19 ERA in four starts. He’s worked into the sixth in all four outings and has walked just four batters while striking out 28 batters. The 23-year-old is closing in on a career-high in innings pitched. Last season, Nett tossed 65 innings, and this season, he’s already at 61.1 innings. The organization already skipped his turn twice earlier in the season and could look to control his innings a bit more as the second half of the season continues. TinCaps 8, Great Lakes Loons 7

Key Statistics: SS Leo De Vries 0-for-2, R, 4 BB, RBI; 2B Brandon Butterworth 1-for-5, 3B, BB, 2 RBI; LF Ryan Jackson 2-for-4, 2 R, BB; C Brendan Durfee 1-for-2, R, 3 BB, RBI; RHP Ian Koenig 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, BB, 3 K; RHP Garrett Hawkins (W, 5-1) 1.2 IP, BB, 3 K

Prospect Watch: Things got wild at Parkview Field in more ways than one. The TinCaps drew a franchise-record 16 walks and fittingly won the game on a walk-off walk to defeat the Loons on a warm summer night in Fort Wayne. … Brandon Butterworth drew the 16th and final walk for the TinCaps, to earn his second walk-off of the season. The former NC State infielder also had his league-leading sixth triple in the contest. The 22-year-old has turned in offense 10 percent above the league average while playing solid defense at second base. The versatile infielder has also added 10 stolen bases. … Ryan Jackson started in left field and added a pair of singles and a walk. The outfield appearance was the first of Jackson’s professional career, and it marked the first time since his freshman year at the University of Nevada in 2021 that Jackson appeared on the grass. After an outstanding first half with the Storm, the 23-year-old has continued to hit during his time with the TinCaps. He is 6-for-19 with a double and four walks in five games with the ‘Caps. … Righty Garrett Hawkins recorded the final five outs of the game to earn his fifth win of the season. He walked one and struck out three. Hawkins has not allowed a run in 17 consecutive outings. During that span, he’s punched out 27 batters, walked just five batters, and has an incredible 0.57 WHIP. The 25-year-old is in his first season after having Tommy John surgery.

Modesto Nuts 5, Storm 3

Key Statistics: C Lamar King Jr. 2-for-4, R, BB, 2 2B, RBI; 3B Zach Evans 2-for-4, R, SB (7); DH Kavares Tears 1-for-4, BB; RHP Kannon Kemp (L, 1-2) 5.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 6 K; RHP Carson Swilling IP, H, K; LHP Igor Gil IP, BB, 2 K

Prospect Watch: The Storm led early, but the Nuts scored four times in the sixth to beat them in Lake Elsinore. … Catcher Lamar King Jr. continued his excellent run with a pair of doubles in the loss. King, 21, now leads the Cal League with 20 two-baggers, and he’s been arguably the hottest hitter in the entire system in June. The young catcher is hitting .407/.514/.593 with 12 walks and just seven strikeouts this month. He’s also been dynamic on the basepaths, adding eight stolen bases for good measure. … Righty Kannon Kemp dominated for four innings before the Nuts got to him in the fifth. Kemp had a no-hitter through four innings but allowed an RBI single in the fifth inning. The Texas native went out for the sixth, but the Nuts notched a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly off Kemp before he was yanked. Overall, the numbers aren’t overly impressive – he was charged with three earned runs in 5.1 innings, but he looked strong for most of his outing. Kemp struck out six without allowing a walk. Since joining the Storm two weeks ago, the big righty has pitched at least five innings in each of his three outings. … Righty Carson Swilling returned from the injured list and tossed a scoreless frame, allowing one hit and striking out one. The South Alabama alum missed two months of action.

Roster Moves: In addition to Swilling returning to Lake Elsinore, reliever Tanner Smith was promoted from the desert and added to the Storm bullpen. The Padres’ 15th round pick out of Harvard last year has been working back slowly from Tommy John surgery in college. Xavier Ruiz, who was the Storm’s most reliable reliever last season, was sent back to the desert as his rough 2025 continues. Lefty Ruben Salinas was also sent back to the complex where he fired a shutout inning on Tuesday.

ACL Cubs 12, ACL Padres 2

Key Statistics: CF Donte Grant 2-for-4, 2B; 3B Ismael Javier 3-for-4, RBI; RHP Humberto Cruz (L, 0-4) 2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K; RHP Dariel Polanco 3 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 2 K; LHP Ruben Salinas IP, BB, 2 K

Prospect Watch: Tuesday marked another rough day for the ACL Padres, as the pitching staff struggled once again in a loss to the Cubs in Peoria. … Third baseman Ismael Javier had three singles and drove in a run in the loss. The switch-hitting 19-year-old has a .622 OPS on the year in his second pass at the complex league. … Center fielder Donte Grant had his second consecutive multi-hit game, including a double. The 20-year-old Washington native has a .400 on-base percentage in June, fueled in part by getting hit by eight pitches in 75 trips to the plate. After striking out in 29% of his plate appearances in the season’s first month, he has cut that to a more manageable 21.3% in this month. … Righty Humberto Cruz struggled again Tuesday, allowing four runs in his two innings of work. Cruz has been eased into action this season, and nothing has really clicked for the live-armed righty. In four June starts, Cruz has allowed 14 earned runs and 19 hits in 11.1 innings. The young hurler has an 8.31 ERA in 17.1 innings for the ACL squad this season. Opponents are hitting .304 against him. Despite the struggles, Cruz seems like a good bet to see action in Lake Elsinore later this summer.
